Govt will address Awami League offices opening legally: Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development & Co-operatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government will review the opening of Awami League offices in different areas from a legal standpoint.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Monday (February 23).
“We did not want this, and since their activities are legally restricted, it will be addressed accordingly in all areas,” he said.
Responding to questions on local government elections, Fakhrul said they will be held in due course, following proper government regulations, and emphasised that the government should prioritize these elections.
On BNP nominations for reserved women seats in parliament, he said candidates must have strong connections with the public and the party, giving priority to those actively involved in party politics.
This was the first visit by a BNP minister or senior leader to the central office since the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, with party members welcoming him with flowers.
On the ocassion, he noted that the Naya Paltan office has historically led major party movements under late Chairperson and former PM Khaleda Zia, inspiring public engagement.
