Govt working to modernise education sector: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is implementing various initiatives to make the education system modern, time-befitting and practical. He said the government is not only focusing on textbook-based education but also ensuring the physical, mental and creative development of students.
The prime minister made the remarks in a message issued on the occasion of the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys and Girls) 2026, scheduled for Saturday, June 20 .
In his message, the prime minister said the government is working to modernise and update the education sector as part of implementing the 'Bangladesh First' election manifesto. In continuation of this, initiatives have been taken to incorporate sports into the national curriculum .
He said there are plans to gradually include sports such as football, cricket, chess, karate and swimming in the curriculum from Class IV to higher secondary level. Students will be ensured participation in these sports activities through practical classes and assessments, not just theoretical education .
The prime minister said investment in children's education and health is the most important investment for nation-building. Sports, culture and creative activities are essential alongside academic subjects to build a confident, skilled and humane generation .
He further said increasing students' involvement in sports will play a positive role in preventing social problems such as drug addiction and excessive mobile phone addiction.
In his message, the prime minister said a total of 1,23,974 matches have been held across the country in the boys' and girls' categories combined. In terms of size and participation, this event is one of the largest football tournaments in the world .
The prime minister said the current government is encouraging students to participate in sports and cultural activities alongside their studies. As a result, Bangladeshi boys and girls are achieving significant success, particularly in football, both domestically and internationally.
In conclusion, he expressed hope that the children participating in this tournament would become the bright faces of the future and take the country to new heights on the international stage .
He also wished the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys and Girls) 2026 every success .
