Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said the government’s foremost responsibility is to provide maximum support to the Election Commission (EC) to ensure a credible and orderly national election.

He made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office on Wednesday (January 21) on overall law and order, ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter.

Dr. Yunus described the election as a major national challenge that must be addressed collectively and successfully, calling it an opportunity to set a historic benchmark. “From today, preparations have begun. February 12 will be the final test. There must be no lapses anywhere,” he said, expressing hope that the 2026 election would serve as a model for the future.

Emphasising discipline and coordination, he said all institutions must strictly follow the EC’s directives, adding that this was the most important instruction at this stage. The Home Ministry will play a central command role in maintaining law and order, he said, noting that the election would face both conventional and new technology-driven challenges.

Dr. Yunus said body cameras and CCTV would be deployed during the polls, with a central control room monitoring the overall situation. He instructed the security forces to ensure seamless coordination in carrying out their duties.

The chief adviser noted strong interest from domestic and international media and election observers, stressing the need for utmost seriousness.

He expressed optimism that a peaceful and fair election was achievable, citing positive attitudes among candidates and a prevailing atmosphere of mutual respect, and urged all stakeholders to maintain that spirit through polling day.
