Graft allegations against Asif Mahmud submitted to ACC
A group of supporters of former Awami League lawmaker and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan submitted a corruption complaint against former Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud at the headquarters of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday.
The incident took place at the ACC’s main office in Segunbagicha on Thursday (February 26) at noon.
According to ACC sources, 20 to 30 individuals gathered at the premises chanting slogans in support of Shakib before entering the building and demanding that officials accept a written complaint against Asif Mahmud.
Witnesses said the group created significant pressure on officials and disrupted regular office operations. To prevent further escalation, the relevant ACC department accepted the complaint.
Speaking to the media on condition of anonymity, an ACC official said the group caused a commotion inside the office and compelled authorities to receive the complaint.
The complaint, which was filed anonymously, has been kept for review.
The official added that not every complaint submitted to the ACC proceeds directly to investigation or prosecution. The commmission will examine the complaint in accordance with the law, and if no specific evidence or credible information is found, it will be dismissed. Should sufficient grounds emerge, appropriate legal steps will follow.
