Grand parade and spectacular fly-past held on Independence Day

A colourful two-and-a-half-hour parade and a mesmerising fly-past were held at the National Parade Square at the old airport in the capital on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day.

The programme began at 9:30 am on Thursday, March 26, and continued until 12:00 pm. The event was a grand display of military discipline, modern technology and national heritage.

The parade commenced with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman taking the salute. When President Md Sahabuddin arrived at the venue around 10:00 am, the Prime Minister welcomed him. The President then inspected the parade, and the formal proceedings began with the national anthem.

After the inspection, the President gave the order for the parade, and the main march-past began. Various contingents of the Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB and RAB participated in disciplined formations. Recitations of poetry and military band music filled the atmosphere with patriotism.

Around 10:55 am, a special paratrooper display began in the sky. Army personnel descended by parachute carrying the national flag and other flags, drawing great excitement from the spectators.

Subsequently, helicopters and fighter jets from the Army, Navy and Air Force flew in the sky one after another, performing coordinated aerial displays.

After 11:10 am, a static and equipment display began on the ground. A wide array of modern military technology was exhibited, including tanks, APCs, radar systems, drones and mine-clearing vehicles. The Navy also showcased submarine, torpedo and drone technology. BGB and Fire Service also demonstrated their capabilities.

Later, during the Air Force fly-past, fighter jets and helicopters painted the national sky with colourful smoke. Helicopters carrying the national flag and the flags of the Army, Navy and Air Force circled in the sky, making the spectacle even more captivating.

Spectators stood in respect as they watched the national flag flying in the sky. The event formally concluded around 12:00 pm with tributes paid to the valiant freedom fighters.
