Gulshan flat corruption case: Charge framing hearing against Tulip postponed to May 6
A Dhaka court has postponed the charge framing hearing against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and another accused in a corruption case over illegally acquiring a flat in Gulshan-2, setting May 6 as the new date.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 passed the order on Thursday (April 16) after the scheduled hearing did not take place, confirmed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam.
The case, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, also names former RAJUK assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain as a co-accused.
According to case details, Tulip—niece of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina—is accused of acquiring a flat from Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan without payment by abusing power and later registering it.
The court had earlier accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrants on February 18. It also ordered issuance of an Interpol red notice against Tulip following an ACC petition.
The case was filed on April 15 last year against Tulip, Mosharraf Hossain, and another former RAJUK official Shah Mohammad Khosruzzaman. However, investigation against Khosruzzaman remains stayed following a High Court order upheld by the Appellate Division.
The ACC submitted the charge sheet against Tulip and Mosharraf on December 11 after completing its investigation.
In a separate case over alleged irregularities in plot allocations, Tulip Siddiq has already been sentenced to a total of six years’ imprisonment by another Dhaka court.
