The physical condition of bullet-hit Sharif Osman Hadi remains critical and no assessment of his recovery can be made before at least 72 hours have passed, said Dr Arif Mahmud, Director, Medical Services, Evercare Hospital Bangladesh.

On Friday afternoon, Sharif Osman Hadi, independent MP candidate from Dhaka-8 and convener of Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head while campaigning in the Box Culvert area of Nayapaltan. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where he underwent surgery and was placed in the ICU. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to Evercare Hospital.

Speaking to journalists in front of Evercare Hospital on Saturday afternoon, Dr Arif Mahmud said the injury to Osman Hadi’s brain is extremely severe. Although his heart is functioning, his brain condition is very poor. In such a situation, it is not possible to give any prognosis at this stage, and the observation period may need to be extended if necessary.

He added that due to injury to the brain stem, Hadi’s eyes remain fixed. However, a positive sign is that his other organs are still functioning.
