Former councillor and Jubo League leader Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi ordered the shooting that killed Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch additional commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.

He disclosed the information at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday afternoon after submitting the charge sheet in the Hadi murder case to the court.

He said that charges had been filed because the allegations against the accused were proven in the investigation. Of the 17 individuals charged, 12 are under arrest and 5 are fugitives.

Osman Hadi was killed due to political vengeance, he stated.

Regarding the accused Foysal's video message, Shafiqul Islam said he could have sent a video message, but evidence of his involvement had been found.

On December 12, the day after the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum was announced, Hadi was shot in the head while in a rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, from a moving motorcycle. In critical condition, he was first treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital.

When his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Singapore on December 15. He died three days later, on December 18. On December 14, a murder attempt case was filed at Paltan police station by Abdulah Al Jabed, member secretary of the Inquilab Mancha, naming Foysal Karim Masud as the accused. The case was converted to a murder case following Osman Hadi's death.
