The investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, has been postponed to January 29, marking the third delay.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set the new date on Sunday (January 25), after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the report on schedule, confirmed SI Rukunuzzaman.

Hadi was active in the July uprising and subsequent political movements, had announced his candidacy for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections from Dhaka-8 as an independent candidate. He was shot during a public outreach in the capital's Bijoynagar on December 12 and later died in Singapore.

Following his death, Abdullah Al Jaber, Inqilab Mancha member secretary, filed an attempted murder case on December 14, later amended to include Section 302 (murder).

Initially handled by local police, the case was transferred to the DB Police. On January 6, the DB Police submitted a charge sheet naming 17 individuals, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and ex-AL student leader Faisal Karim Masud, as accused.

However, the Inqilab Mancha expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet. During a hearing on January 12, the complainant requested two days to review it. The court allowed the request, setting January 15 for the next hearing. On that date, the complainant filed a protest (naraji) against the DB Police charge sheet, prompting the court to order a re-investigation by CID.

According to the DB Police investigation officer Inspector Faisal Ahmed, preliminary analysis of the accused’s political affiliations and Hadi’s speeches suggests the attack was politically motivated.
