Hadi’s autopsy completed, preparations underway for funeral
The autopsy of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, has been completed. The procedure took place at the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Saturday around 10:45am.
After the autopsy, Hadi’s body was returned to the cold storage of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. Following ritual washing, it will be taken to the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban for the funeral.
Earlier, at around 9:45am, the body was transported in a refrigerated vehicle from the cold storage to Suhrawardy Hospital under strict security measures. Law enforcement agencies maintained tight security throughout the area.
Sources said that the body will be taken in a procession from the institute to Manik Mia Avenue with the participation of colleagues and supporters. The funeral prayers are scheduled at 2:00pm at the South Plaza, with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police deploying sufficient personnel and installing nearly a thousand body-worn cameras to ensure security.
According to a Facebook post by Inqilab Mancha, at the family’s request, Hadi will be buried beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The funeral prayers at Manik Mia Avenue will follow the Zuhr prayer.
Hadi was critically injured on December 12 when unidentified assailants fired at him from a moving motorcycle during a public outreach programme in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, then admitted to Evercare Hospital. On December 15, he was flown by air ambulance to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment, where he passed away on the night of December 18. His body was flown back to Dhaka on December 19, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:48pm.
