Hadi’s body taken to Suhrawardy hospital morgue for autopsy
The body of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, has been taken to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The body was transported from the cold storage of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases to the hospital morgue at around 9:40am on Saturday (December 20) under tight security.
Family members, fellow activists and colleagues accompanied the body.
From early morning, a large number of people gathered at the hospital premises to pay their last respects to Sharif Osman Hadi.
Hospital sources said the body will be washed after the autopsy at around 11:30am. Following the completion of necessary formalities, it will be taken to the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where his funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at 2:00pm.
Meanwhile, a one-day state mourning is being observed across the country today in connection with Sharif Osman Hadi’s death.
Earlier, on Thursday night (December 18), Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus announced the one-day state mourning in an address to the nation.
Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured in a shooting by assailants in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on December 12, a day after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, and was later admitted to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment, where he later died.
