Reports of torching three buses were filed as far--Baitul Mukarram south gate, Mohammadpur and Tantibazar--since the hartal began at 6:00am.
Although regular vehicular movement were seen in many places, commuters suffered due to the thin presence of buses in Jatrabari, Paltan, Saatrasta, Shahbagh and Farmgate area of the capital.
In some areas, rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws seem to be the only means of transportation. Private car movement was also thin comparing to other Sundays.
The law enforcers were seen patrolling all major roads and streets in the capital.
No hartal supporters were seen at any points in the capital, reports our correspondents.
Twelve platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) had been deployed in the capital to maintain law and order and strengthen security ahead of hartal.
BGB members were patrolling different areas of the capital, especially in Kakrail, Paltan and Motijheel areas.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan confirmed that rail communication at Kamalapur Railway Station is being operated normally.
Launch operation at Sadarghat terminal was seen as normal but there were few passengers.

He was detained from his house in Dhaka's Gulshan area at around 9:30am, Shamsuddin Didar, a member of the BNP chairperson's press wing said.
DB Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Hafiz Al Asad said that they have brought in Mirza Fakhrul Islam for questioning.
Meanwhile, police have cordoned off BNP Standing Committee Members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Mirza Abbas's residences.
BNP announced to observe the dawn to dusk hartal across Bangladesh after they were forced to call off their Saturday’s grand rally after a violent clash with police.
A police constable was killed during the clash while BNP claimed that one of their activists died in police firing.
According to police, BNP, and other sources, over 1,000 people, including over 100 policemen, over 30 journalists, and hundreds of BNP leaders and activists, were injured during the clashes at Kakrail, Bijaynagar, Nightingale crossing and Fakirapool.
Partners of BNP’s simultaneous movement also extended support to BNP’s hartal, while Jamaat-e-Islmai called dawn to dusk hartal across the country separately on Sunday.
