HC dismisses writ against BNP’s Quayum, clears way for Dhaka-11 polls

The High Court dismissed a writ petition challenging the nomination of BNP-nominated Dr. M A Quayum for the Dhaka-11 parliamentary constituency, clearing the way for him to contest the upcoming election.


A bench led by Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md. Asif Hasan passed the order on Tuesday (February 3).


The petition, filed by NCP Convener and the party's nominated candidate Md. Nahid Islam, alleged that Quayum held dual citizenship of Vanuatu and had concealed this in his affidavit, which, according to the petitioner, made him constitutionally ineligible.

Following a hearing form bothe side, the court upheld Quayum’s eligibility, maintaining the validity of his nomination papers.


Quayum’s legal team, including Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan, and Barrister Kazi Akhtar Hossain, defended his nomination. Nahid was represented by Advocates Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Zahirul Islam Musa.

Earlier, the Election Commission had also declared his nomination valid.
