The High Court granted bail to Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, former lawmaker for Habiganj-4, in two attempted murder cases filed with Khilgaon and Mugda police stations in the capital.

A bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Zakir Hossain passed the order on Wednesday (July 29) after disposing of the rules issued in connection with the two cases.

Barrister Sumon's counsel, Advocate M. Liton Ahmed, said the court made the rules absolute and granted his client bail in both cases.

The lawyer also said the former MP had previously secured bail in three other cases from the High Court. However, the state has filed petitions seeking to stay those bail orders, which are currently awaiting hearings.

Apart from these cases, two additional cases involving Barrister Sumon remain pending before the trial court.

Barrister Sumon was arrested from Mirpur-6 in Dhaka on October 21, 2024. He is facing seven criminal cases filed at different police stations in Dhaka and Habiganj.
