HC halts expressway construction at Panthakunja park and Hatirjheel

The High Court has issued an order halting the construction of the elevated expressway at Panthakunja Park and the Hatirjheel area adjacent to Sonargaon in the capital. The court has also directed that Panthakunja Park be reopened for public use.

The order was passed on Wednesday (September 10) by the High Court bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Bishwajit Debnath.

Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the petitioners.

Earlier, nine eminent citizens, including environmental activist Amirul Rajib, Professor Anu Muhammad, and Professor Gitiara Nasrin, filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking a ban on the construction of the elevated expressway at Panthakunja Park and Hatirjheel. The petition was filed attaching various reports published in newspapers.
