HC orders EC to accept Nusrat Tabassum's nomination papers
The High Court has ordered the Election Commission to accept the nomination papers of Nusrat Tabassum, a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for the reserved women's seats in the National Parliament.
The HC bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order on Monday, April 27.
Earlier, Nusrat Tabassum had filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the EC's decision to cancel her nomination.
The EC had cancelled Nusrat Tabassum's candidacy on April 22 for submitting her nomination papers after the scheduled deadline. The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the reserved women's seats election, scheduled for May 12, was 4:00 pm on April 22. Tabassum submitted her papers at 4:19 pm.
In a related development, the EC had also kept pending the candidacy of NCP joint convener Monira Sharmin over similar issues.
