HC refuses to hear writ petition on DUCSU elections
The High Court on Thursday declined to hear a writ petition filed by Md. Julius Caesar Talukder seeking reinstatement of his candidacy and ballot number in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
A bench of Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Faiz Ahmed said the court would not entertain any writs related to DUCSU elections, citing a prior decision by the Appellate Division. The petition was subsequently removed from the court’s agenda.
Addressing the petitioner’s lawyer, Justice Chowdhury said, “A writ petition regarding DUCSU elections has come earlier, and we have rejected it. The Appellate Division has already intervened in DUCSU elections. Therefore, we will not hear any writ petition regarding DUCSU elections.”
The writ filed by Julius also challenged the university syndicate’s decision to exclude him from the final candidate list and to form a three-member committee to investigate allegations against him.
Lawyers representing Dhaka University were present during the hearing.
