The High Court has summarily dismissed a writ petition filed by Md. Julius Caesar Talukder, seeking to suspend the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election and to reinstate his candidacy and ballot number for the Vice President (VP) post.

The bench comprising Justice Md. Mojibur Rahman Miah and Justice Bishwajit Debnath delivered the order on Monday following a hearing on the matter.

Earlier, another High Court bench had refused to hear the writ, citing that the issue was already under consideration by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. As a result, the petition was removed from the cause list.

On September 4, the bench of Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Fayez Ahmed passed the order to drop the writ from the list, after the matter was presented for hearing.

Confirming the development, Dhaka University’s legal counsel Mohammad Shishir Monir stated that Julius Caesar’s writ petition concerning the DUCSU election had been excluded from the court’s schedule.

On August 31, Talukder filed the writ petition in the High Court, seeking an order to reinstate his name and ballot number in the final list of candidates for the VP post. He also requested that the DUCSU election be suspended until his candidacy was officially restored.

Talukder had initially been listed as a candidate for the VP position. Following the verification process, the Election Commission released the final list of candidates on August 26, which included his name and assigned him ballot number 26.
