HC releases full verdict ordering Yunus’s Grameen Kalyan to pay Tk6.66 Billion in tax
The High Court has published its full verdict directing Grameen Kalyan, an organisation owned by former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, to pay Tk 666 crore in taxes claimed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The two separate verdicts, spanning 15 and 32 pages, were published on Monday (October 12) after being signed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Rezaul Karim.
On September 10, the High Court ruled that Grameen Kalyan must pay the Tk 666 crore claimed by the NBR.
At the time, Grameen Kalyan’s lawyer, Khwaja Tanvir, told the media that the court had dismissed the rule challenging the NBR’s demand, effectively upholding the revenue authority’s claim.
Following the July mass uprising, the High Court had, on October 4, 2024, suo motu withdrawn an earlier verdict concerning the NBR’s claim for Tk 666 crore in taxes from Grameen Kalyan.
