HC sets Sept 4 for verdict on state’s appeal in Aug 21 grenade case
The Appellate Division has set September 4 as the date for the verdict on the appeal against the acquittal of all the accused, including BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in the August 21 grenade attack case.
A six-judge appellate bench led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed set the date for the verdict after hearing both sides on Thursday.
Earlier, the state had sought to overturn the acquittal of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar, who were acquitted in the High Court.
On December 1, the High Court accepted the appeals filed by the accused and acquitted all the accused in the murder and explosives cases linked to the August 21 grenade attack by dismissing the death reference.
