The High Court has stayed the recruitment procedure of 406 drivers of the Transport Pool under the Ministry of Public Administration.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Mujibur Rahman Mia and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order on Tuesday (September 16).

Advocate Abdus Sattar Palawan, accompanied by Advocate Md. Jamil Haque, heard the case on behalf of the petitioner.

Advocate Abdus Sattar Palawan said that in 2018, the High Court had ordered the permanent employment of 28 drivers working in the Upazila Nirbahi Office (UNO). Although the verdict said that the directive should be implemented within 30 days, it has not been implemented even after three years. Instead, the Transport Pool published a new recruitment notice.

Then in 2021, the petitioners filed a contempt of court case. At that time, the High Court issued a contempt of court rule against those concerned and ordered a stay on the recruitment process. The Transport Pool Authority filed two appeals against the judgment and order, but the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed them on March 18 this year.

However on September 3, the Transport Pool started the written examination process for the recruitment of 406 new drivers, disregarding the judgment of the High Court and the Appellate Division.

In this situation, the petitioners filed a supplementary application in the contempt of court case filed earlier, requesting the suspension of the circular of November 17, 2022 regarding the recruitment.

After hearing that plea, the High Court issued a stay order on the ongoing recruitment process of 406 drivers of the Transport Pool.
