Health sector's 'Mafia Mithu’ detained in Gulshan

Motajjerul Islam Mithu, widely known as the mastermind behind corruption in the health sector during the previous government, was detained on Thursday by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) from the Gulshan area of the capital.

According to a press release issued by the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown on corruption within the healthcare system.

Mithu has long been accused of orchestrating large-scale irregularities in health services, earning him the notorious title of ‘health mafia.’ The authorities are expected to interrogate him further to uncover more details of the corrupt network.
