Hearing on writ seeking ban on AL Thursday
The High Court has fixed Thursday (August 22) for a hearing on a writ petition seeking a ban on the Awami League and the cancellation of its registration as a political party for indiscriminate killing.
An HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam set the date today .
Earlier on Monday (August 19), Arifur Rahman, executive director of the human rights organization Sarda Society, filed the writ in the court.
The writ pleaded to rename all the institutions across the country named after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Additionally, the petitioner also pleaded for allowing the incumbent interim government minimum three years to implement reforms, transfer of all the contractual appointments made during the Awami League government, and repatriate Tk 11 lakh crore smuggled abroad.
The writ petitioner Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan said, "We have sought rules and orders regarding the issues outlined on the writ. The High Court bench headed by Justice KM Asaduzzaman will hear the writ petition next Thursday (August 22)."
