Heatwave over 14 regions, rain with thunder likely in four divisions

Heatwaves are sweeping over 14 regions of the country, the Met Office said on Tuesday, April 21. Mild to moderate heatwaves are blowing over Tangail, Faridpur, Lakshmipur, Khulna, Jashore and Kushtia districts, along with Rajshahi division, and may continue.

Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir said an extension of a low-pressure system from West Bengal extends to the northern Bay of Bengal. Until Wednesday evening, rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds and lightning may occur in one or two places in Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Scattered hailstorms may also occur in some places. The weather will remain mainly dry in the rest of the country.

After Wednesday evening, the rain area will change somewhat. Thunderstorms with rain are likely in Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions. Temperatures will remain nearly unchanged, and the heatwave may persist.

The Met Office has indicated some improvement from Friday and Saturday. Over these two days, rain with thunderstorms may occur in most divisions, including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet, and daytime temperatures may drop slightly.
