Heatwave sweeps across 41 districts including Dhaka, rain likely on Friday

A mild to moderate heatwave is blowing over 41 districts of the country including the capital Dhaka. However, the intensity of the heatwave may decrease by Friday, the Meteorological Department said.

According to the weather forecast released, a mild to moderate heatwave is blowing over Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, Barisal, Patuakhali and Bhola districts, as well as eight districts of Rajshahi division, eight districts of Rangpur division and 10 districts of Khulna division on Wednesday (June 3). This situation may continue till tomorrow.

Meteorologist Md. Abdul Hamid Mia said that the temperature will decrease slightly if the rain starts. However, the heatwave may continue in most parts of the country as well on Thursday. There is a possibility of improvement from Friday.

According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty or squally winds are likely to occur in some areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and in one or two places of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal divisions on Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail on Thursday as well.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that day and night temperatures across the country may remain almost unchanged on Wednesday. However, the day temperature may drop slightly on Thursday, although the night temperature will remain almost unchanged.

According to the Meteorological Department, a temperature between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius is called a mild heat wave. If it is between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, it is considered moderate, if it is between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, it is considered severe and if it is more than 42 degrees, it is considered a very severe heat wave.

Public life has become unbearable due to the scorching heat of the summer. The temperature in the capital Dhaka was recorded at 35.7 degrees Celsius at 12 noon on Wednesday.

The highest temperature in the country in the last 24 hours was recorded in Saidpur, Nilphamari, at 38.5 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the lowest temperature was in Sylhet, at 23.3 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the Meteorological Department recorded the highest rainfall of 24 millimeters in Sylhet.
