Heavy rain likely in six divisions, storm alert issued for 19 districts

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across six divisions over the next 48 hours and issued a storm alert for Dhaka and 18 other districts.

In separate weather bulletins, the Met Office said parts of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience heavy (44–88 mm) to very heavy (more than 88 mm) rainfall.

The agency warned that the downpour could trigger temporary waterlogging in Chattogram city and increase the risk of landslides in the hilly areas of the Chattogram division.

Meanwhile, a separate river-port warning valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday said gusty winds of 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms, may sweep across Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.

River ports in the affected areas have been advised to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.
