High Court gets 25 new judges

The interim government has appointed 25 additional judges in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.


Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law on Monday issued a notification in this regard.


According to it, President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment in consultation with the Chief Justice for two years in line with article 95(1) of the constitution.


The total number of HC judges now stands at 113.


Earlier, 230 judges of the district courts, including 41 district judges, were transferred simultaneously in 19 districts including Dhaka. The transferred judges include 53 additional district and sessions judges, 40 joint district and sessions judges and 96 senior assistant judges and assistant judge-level officers.


Their transfer orders were issued in four separate notifications from the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.


The appointees are:


Supreme Court lawyers Advocate Md. Anwarul Islam (Shahin), Faisal Hasan Arif, Rajiuddin Ahmed, Md. Asif Hasan, Md. Ziaul Haque, Fatema Anwar, Abdur Rahman, Syed Hasan Zubair, Urmi Rahman.


Law and Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary (Senior District and Sessions Judge) Sheikh Abu Taher, Additional Secretary (Senior District Judge) Md. Saiful Islam, Joint Secretary (Senior District Judge) S. M Saiful Islam and Solicitor (Senior District Judge) Md. Rafizul Islam.


Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Zakir Hossain, Chittagong District and Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam, Habiganj District and Sessions Judge Jasmine Ara Begum.


Supreme Court Registrar General (Senior District Judge) Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan and Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission Secretary (Senior District Judge) Murad-e-Mawla Sohel.


Deputy Attorney General Mihidar Masum Kabir, Md. Manzur Alam, Md. Lutfar Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Mahmud Hasan, A. F. M Saiful Karim and S. M. Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud.


Among them is, the father-in-law of National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Sarjis Alam, Advocate Md. Lutfar Rahman. He was serving as Deputy Attorney General.
