The High Court has granted bail to former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in two murder cases filed with Mirpur Police Station and Ramna Police Station.

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the bail order on Sunday (May 10), declaring the rule issued earlier in connection with his bail petition as valid.

Lawyer ZI Khan Panna and Barrister Rehan appeared for Noor, while Deputy Attorney General Shaila Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md. Alamin opposed the bail on behalf of the state.

The cases include allegations linked to the killing of a teenager, Siam Sardar, 17, in Mirpur during unrest on July 18, 2024. According to case documents, the complaint was filed on September 12 by the victim’s father, Sohan Sardar, naming several individuals including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 114 others.

Police had earlier shown Noor arrested in connection with the Mirpur case and sought his detention in custody. He was arrested on September 15, 2024, from Bailey Road in Dhaka.

The following day, a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court ordered Noor and former State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali to be sent to jail in connection with the same case.

Noor has been facing multiple legal proceedings related to the incident, and further legal steps are underway as the cases continue in court.
