High Court orders reinstatement of ACC officer Sharif Uddin
The High Court has ordered the reinstatement of Md. Sharif Uddin, a former officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), who was dismissed from service earlier this year. The court also directed that all pending salaries and benefits be paid to him.
The bench delivered the verdict on Wednesday, overturning the ACC’s previous decision to remove Sharif Uddin from his post.
Sharif Uddin, who served as Deputy Assistant Director at the ACC’s Chittagong office, was dismissed on February 16, 2023, under Rule 54(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (Employee) Service Rules, 2008. The dismissal order was signed by then-ACC Chairman Moinuddin Abdullah and included provisions for 90 days’ salary and applicable benefits.
During his tenure, Sharif Uddin handled investigations into several major corruption cases. Reports suggest he faced opposition from influential quarters following his work.
In January 2023, Sharif Uddin reportedly received threats against his life and family. He subsequently filed a general diary at Khulshi police station, naming former Managing Director of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited Md. Ayub Khan Chowdhury and others, supported by CCTV footage.
Following the court’s decision, Sharif Uddin expressed relief, stating, “I have received justice.”
