High Court rejects bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna in murder case
The High Court has denied bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, in one of five separate cases, including a murder case.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Sunday (May 10).
Lawyer Apurbo Kumar Bhattacharjee, representing Krishna during the hearing, confirmed the information, stating, "Hearings in the remaining four cases will continue, with a verdict scheduled for Monday (May 11)."
According to the court, the bail petition was rejected in the case linked to the killing of lawyer Alif, as trial proceedings and witness testimonies have already begun in the matter.
The High Court had earlier issued a rule in the cases on September 1 last year. After hearing arguments on Thursday (May 7), the court set May 10 for delivering its order.
Chinmoy Krishna faces multiple charges, including sedition and murder, across several cases. He was earlier shown arrested in connection with a sedition case filed on April 30, 2024, over alleged disrespect to the national flag.
The case was filed at Kotwali Police Station on October 31, 2024, by BNP ward general secretary Firoz Khan, naming Chinmoy Krishna and 18 others in a sedition allegation. He was arrested along with others on November 25, 2024.
Following unrest linked to bail proceedings in the sedition case, clashes broke out in the Chattogram court premises on November 26, 2025, during which lawyer Saiful Islam was killed in a violent attack.
Further proceedings in the remaining four cases are expected to continue in court on Monday.
