Highest 10 deaths from dengue in a day, nearly 2,000 admitted to hospital

The dengue situation in the country has further deteriorated. Ten people have died after being infected with this mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of deaths in a single day this year. In the same period, 1,996 new dengue patients have been admitted to various hospitals of the country.

These information have been given in the regular report on dengue of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday (October 6). According to the report, the information of these deaths and new patient identifications was received in the 24 hours from 8am on Monday to 8am on Tuesday.

With the new 10 deaths, the number of deaths from dengue this year has risen to 281. Among those who died in the last 24 hours, four are from Dhaka division, three from Khulna division, two from Barishal division and one from Rajshahi division.

With the new patients, 90,356 people have been admitted to hospitals after being infected with dengue so far this year. Among them, 84,299 have left the hospital after recovering following treatment. 1,964 people have received discharge certificates in the last 24 hours alone.

The statistics of the Directorate General of Health Services say that 148 people died of dengue in September, which is the highest in any single month of the current year. Earlier, 43 died in August, 36 in July and 13 in June. One dengue patient died in May and two each in January and February.

There is no sign of the dengue outbreak decreasing in October either. The Directorate General of Health Services has informed about the deaths of 36 people in the first six days of the month alone. In the same period, a significant number of patients are being admitted to hospitals every day.

New concern has been created over the dengue situation due to the highest 10 deaths in a single day of the current year and the admission of nearly two thousand new patients to hospitals. According to the information of the Directorate General of Health Services, the pressure of dengue patients is also continuing in the hospitals as the numbers of infections and deaths keep increasing.
