The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance has given a 24-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the real culprits in the murder of four members of a family in Rangpur.

The organisation's leaders made the demand at a programme in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday, August 26, morning.

After a human chain, the organisation's leaders said if the demands were not met within the stipulated time, protest programmes would be held across the country on Friday. They alleged that police were trying to conceal the real facts behind the murder of four family members in Rangpur.

The programme expressed concern over the murders of leaders and activists from various communities, including Hindus and Muslims. Speakers said the overall law and order situation in the country was deteriorating.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed commented that the accused in the Rangpur killings had been arrested within a reasonable time following the incident. He said expecting more than that in a short period would not be fair.

Earlier, two youths—Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das—were arrested from the same area in connection with the killing of Ganapati Chakraborty, a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School, his wife, daughter and son. Police said the two had confessed to the killings during interrogation. They also confessed to the crime in their statements before the court.
