BNP Vice Chairman and Supreme Court Senior Lawyer Zainul Abedin has said that national elections should be held by December.

Addressing the interim government, he said: "Hold elections by this time and leave with dignity."

He said this at a function organized by the Dhaka Bar Association on the occasion of the death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at the Bar Association Building on Saturday.

Zainul Abedin said: "Our leader Tarique Rahman has said - hold elections by December. I don't think holding elections by this time is a big deal. You will hold elections by December and leave with dignity. We will support you. I appeal to the government - try to understand the sentiments of the people of Bangladesh. You have passed 10 months to carry out reform plans. But, it was enough for completing the task and hold elections."

Remembering Ziaur Rahman, Zainul Abedin said: "The previous fascist government wanted to erase Ziaur Rahman from everyone’s heart. They thought of erasing Zia’s name. But he cannot be erased from people’s mind. He is embedded in people’s heart."

The function was presided over by Dhaka Bar Association Acting President Abdur Razzak and was attended by General Secretary Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Abdur Rashid Mollah, Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Helal Uddin, former president of the bar Mohsin Mia, among others.
