During the discussion on measles spread, vaccine crisis and death toll in parliament on Wednesday, April 8, Rumin Farhana said child deaths from measles have increased alarmingly recently and there is a vaccine shortage. "Behind every death lies a family tragedy," she said.
In response, the health minister said he did not ignore the issue. "There is no need to be sensitive here. I have answered all questions."
The minister further said, "I am an aged person, looking very young, but aged. Don't get nervous, I am fit."
He informed that despite the risks, he personally visited measles wards at hospitals.
He also noted that according to WHO and UNICEF, only 41 confirmed measles deaths have been recorded in the country so far.
Regarding the vaccine situation, he said the government is rebuilding supply from zero and has already approved Tk 604 crore for vaccine procurement through UNICEF.
