I heard screaming, didn't realize it was my daughter: Ramisa's mother
The mother of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter, who was brutally killed in Mirpur’s Pallabi area, informed that she heard her daughter’s screams during the incident but did not realize they were coming from her own child.
Victim’s mother Parvin Akter said she initially thought the commotion was unrelated after seeing her elder daughter return alone. “I heard someone screaming, but I didn’t understand it was my daughter,” she said, adding that she began searching only after growing suspicious, by which time it was too late.
She further said the child was forcibly taken and was heard crying for help. “The door was locked. I went to several flats seeking help before locals broke it open,” she added.
The victim’s elder sister, Raisa, said Ramisa had insisted on accompanying her to a relative’s house, but she asked her to stay back and left without noticing that the younger child followed her.
Police have arrested a neighbouring tenant, Sohan Rana, and his wife in connection with the incident. Authorities described the case as a premeditated and brutal killing, saying investigations are ongoing.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said evidence has been collected and sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for forensic analysis, while all aspects of the case are under review.
Meanwhile, the prime accused Sohan Rana has reportedly given a confessional statement before a court.
