‘I will not take below Tk 2 crore’, PDB engineer suspended after video spreads

Md Nurul Amin, executive engineer of sales and distribution division of Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) in Lakshmipur, has been temporarily suspended after a video of conversation related to financial transaction spread in the media.

This information has been informed in an office order of the investigation and discipline directorate of PDB on Monday (September 28).

It has been said in the order that decision has been taken to take action under rule 141(1) of Bangladesh Power Development Board (Employees) Service Rules, 1982 as a video of conversation related to financial transaction against Md Nurul Amin has been published in the media. According to that rule he has been temporarily suspended from the service of PDB.

Earlier the video spread on social media on Sunday night. In it Nurul Amin is heard discussing about materials of various projects, bills of contractors and financial transactions. At one stage of the conversation he is heard saying, ‘I will not take below Tk 2 crore.’

It has been mentioned in the report that conversations related to payment of bills of contractors and supply of materials are also there in the video.

PDB chairman Md Rezaul Karim said right after knowing about the video he directed the concerned division to temporarily suspend Nurul Amin. Direction has also been given to start formal investigation against him.

Rezaul Karim said necessary action will be taken regarding Nurul Amin’s job after the investigation is completed. He further said PDB will not back down from taking action against any dishonest person inside the organisation.
