ICT issues arrest warrants against Obaidul Quader, six other
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-2) has issued arrest warrants against Awami League General Secretary and former Minister Obaidul Quader and six other leaders of the party and its affiliated bodies in a crime against humanity case.
A three-member bench, led by ICT-2 Chief Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, passed the order on Thursday (December 18), following the prosecution’s submission of formal charges earlier in the day.
Other Judges includes retired District & Sessions Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid and District & Sessions Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
The other accused in the case include Awami League Joint General Secretary A F M Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam and Prosecutor Gazi M H Tamim presented the charges before the tribunal, which accepted them and ordered the arrest of the seven leaders.
The next hearing has been scheduled for December 29.
The prosecution had earlier confirmed on December 8 that its investigation into all seven accused had been completed.
