ICT orders newspaper notice against 24 fugitives in Abu Sayed murder case

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 ordered the publication of newspaper notices for 24 fugitives wanted in connection with the murder of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, during the July-August Mass Uprising in Rangpur. The tribunal has also directed that the accused be produced before the court on July 22.

Additionally, the tribunal has ordered that two other accused, Rafiqul Hasan Russel and Anwar Parvez Apil, who are currently in custody for other cases, be shown as arrested in this case and produced before the court. This directive was issued on Sunday by the International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.

Earlier, four accused in the Abu Sayed murder case were presented before the tribunal. They include former police sub-inspector Amir Hossain, constable Sujon Chandra Roy, the university proctor Shariful Islam, and Chhatra League activist Imran Chowdhury Akash.

On June 30, the tribunal accepted the charges in the Abu Sayed murder case, which occurred during the July Mass Uprising in Rangpur. Simultaneously, it issued arrest warrants for 26 accused individuals who were absconding. This order was also given by the tribunal headed by Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.

The investigation agency submitted a report to the International Crimes Tribunal regarding the murder of Abu Sayed. The report named 30 people as being involved in the killing. On June 15, the tribunal set July 14 as the deadline for submitting the investigation report and scheduled a hearing for June 26.
