The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has directed the publication of newspaper notices summoning four absconding police officials to appear in court in connection with the killing of Amir Hossain, who was shot while hanging from a cornice during the July mass movement in Dhaka’s Rampura, and the deaths of two others.

Four others accused include former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Khilgaon Zone Md. Rashedul Islam, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Md. Mashiur Rahman, and former Sub-Inspector (SI) of Rampura Police Station Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan.

A three-member bench of Tribunal-1, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder passed the order on Monday (August 25).

The other members of the panel include Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, along with Prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim, Mizanul Islam, and Faruk Ahmed, represented the state in the hearing.

Among the five accused in the Rampura shooting case, former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chanchal Chandra Sarkar of the Rampura police outpost—currently in custody—was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal today.

The tribunal had earlier issued arrest warrants on August 10 for the four remaining accused, who are still absconding.

The formal charges against all five were submitted by the prosecution on August 7, following the submission of the investigation report to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office on July 31.

According to the charge sheet, on the afternoon of July 19, 2024, police shot Amir Hossain while he was hanging from a cornice rod of a four-story building under construction on Banasree-Meradia Road in Dhaka’s Rampura area. Amir survived but remains in critical condition, suffering long-term health complications.

On the same day, two others—Nadeem and Maya Islam—were killed in separate police shootings in Banasree. Maya Islam’s six-year-old grandson, Basit Khan Musa, was also shot. Despite receiving treatment in Singapore, the child has lost his ability to speak.
