The prosecution on Sunday (January 18) submitted formal charges to International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) against 28 individuals, including former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, in connection with crimes against humanity during the July Uprising. The case relates to the killings in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area amid the uprising. ICT prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim confirmed the development, saying the charges were filed against all 28 accused and a hearing on the matter is scheduled to be held later today.

চব্বিশের জুলাই–আগস্ট আন্দোলনকে কেন্দ্র করে রাজধানীর মোহাম্মদপুরে সংঘটিত হত্যাযজ্ঞ ও মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের ঘটনায় জাহাঙ্গীর কবির নানকসহ ২৮ জনের বিরুদ্ধে আনুষ্ঠানিক অভিযোগ (ফরমাল চার্জ) দাখিল করা হয়েছে। রোববার (১৮ জানুয়ারি) আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনাল–১ এর রেজিস্ট্রারের কাছে এসব অভিযোগপত্র জমা দেওয়া হয়। বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে প্রসিকিউটর গাজী এমএইচ তামিম জানান, জুলাই–আগস্টে মোহাম্মদপুর এলাকায় সংঘটিত মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের মামলায় ২৮ জনের বিরুদ্ধে ফরমাল চার্জ দাখিল করা হয়েছে। এ সংক্রান্ত শুনানি আজ অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। অভিযুক্তদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন জাহাঙ্গীর কবির নানক, যিনি কার্যক্রম নিষিদ্ধ আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের সময়ে বস্ত্র ও পাটমন্ত্রীর দায়িত্বে ছিলেন। একই মামলায় ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশনের সাবেক মেয়র শেখ ফজলে নূর তাপসকেও আসামি করা হয়েছে। প্রসঙ্গত, জুলাই–আগস্ট আন্দোলন চলাকালে মোহাম্মদপুর এলাকায় সংঘটিত সহিংসতা ও প্রাণহানির ঘটনায় এই মামলাটি দায়ের করা হয়, যা মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ হিসেবে তদন্তাধীন রয়েছে।
