ICT publishes full verdict in Inu’s 10-year jail term

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has published the full 500-page judgment in the crimes against humanity case in which Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The full verdict was released on Sunday (September 20), prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said.

On June 30, the tribunal convicted Inu on three of eight charges and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment on each count. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 10 years. He was also ordered to pay Tk 200,000 in compensation under two of the convictions.

The tribunal found charges involving political persecution, torture and causing injuries, as well as conspiracy, incitement and involvement in decisions linked to the suppression of the July uprising, to have been proved. Inu was acquitted of the remaining five charges, including allegations concerning incitement through media statements, plans to use lethal weapons and helicopters against protesters, and the killing of six people in Kushtia.

Inu was the sole accused in the case. The prosecution produced 10 witnesses, while the defence presented two witnesses. The tribunal had framed eight charges against him on November 2, 2025, after the investigation began on March 25 and the formal charges were filed on September 25 that year.

Inu was arrested from Dhaka’s Uttara area on August 26, 2024, and was subsequently shown arrested in several cases, including the crimes against humanity case over killings in Kushtia during the July uprising.

The verdict is subject to appeal under the law.
