Identities of 16 Bangladeshis killed in Saudi Arabia factory fire released

The identities of 16 Bangladeshi migrant workers killed in a devastating fire at a sofa-manufacturing factory in Saudi Arabia have been preliminarily identified, according to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The fire broke out at a sofa factory in the Musa Sanaiya industrial area under the Shifa police station in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Preliminary information indicates that 13 of the victims were from Atrai upazila in Naogaon, two from Naldanga upazila in Natore and one from Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi.

The victims from Atrai have been identified as Rubel Pramanik, son of Saidur Rahman of Gondogohali village; Kalimuddin, son of the late Bazlur Pramanik; Mohon and Sumon, sons of Guffar Pramanik; Majidul, son of Majnur, and Abdul Jalil, both from Khorosrota village.

Others from Atrai were identified as Farid of Uzanpoi village; Shuvo and Sumon of Dubai village; Hridoy of Boala village; Shahin of Naogaon village; Sagar of Sadnagar village; and Minhaz, whose full village details were not immediately available.

The two victims from Naldanga were identified as Shamim of Dighirpar village and Sabbir of Khajura village.

The remaining victim was identified as Shyamol, from the Morugram-Dangapara area of Bagmara in Rajshahi.

The ministry said the identities were based on preliminary information and are currently being verified through the relevant authorities. Further details about the fire and the victims will be released once the verification process is completed.c
