Professor Kazi Ahmed Zaki, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), was allegedly assaulted in his office on Wednesday morning. The incident reportedly took place at around 11am. Professor Zaki confirmed the assault to the media, saying, “I am not in a position to explain what happened right now. I will provide details later.” CCTV footage of the incident showed Director Kazi Ahmed Zaki seated in his office, where at least 10 other people were also present. A group of eight to 10 people then entered the room. One of them first pulled the director, along with his chair, away from his seat. Several others subsequently assaulted him.

রোগতত্ত্ব, রোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ ও গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউটের (আইইডিসিআর) পরিচালক অধ্যাপক কাজী আহমেদ জাকিকে তার অফিসকক্ষে মারধর করা হয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ উঠেছে। আজ বুধবার বেলা ১১টার দিকে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। মারধরের বিষয়টি অধ্যাপক কাজী আহমেদ জাকি গণমাধ্যমকে নিশ্চিত করেছেন। তিনি বলেন, আমি এখন ব্যাখ্যা করে বলার মতো অবস্থায় নেই। পরে বিস্তারিত জানাব। ঘটনার একটি সিসিটিভি ফুটেজে দেখা যায়, নিজের অফিসকক্ষে বসেছিলেন পরিচালক কাজী আহমেদ জাকি। ওই কক্ষে তিনি ছাড়াও অন্তত ১০ জন ব্যক্তি উপস্থিত ছিলেন। এসময় ৮-১০ জনের একটি দল ওই কক্ষে প্রবেশ করে। তাদের একজন প্রথমে চেয়ারসহ পরিচালককে তার বসার স্থান থেকে সরিয়ে আনেন। পরে একাধিক ব্যক্তি পরিচালককে মারধর করেন।
