IFES delegation meets Deputy Speaker
A three-member delegation of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) paid a courtesy call on National Parliament Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.
The meeting took place at the National Parliament building on Wednesday, March 25. The delegation comprised John Joseph Lees, Nanad Marinkovic and Maria Chowdhury.
During the meeting, they discussed parliamentary activities, the possibility of launching foundational research projects, parliamentary culture and customs, the use of Italian software for e-parliament activities, enhancing the efficiency of legislative and administrative functions, and the number of parliamentary committees.
They also exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary committee activities, making parliament more accountable, parliamentary history and traditions, budget allocation, the activities of the Public Accounts Committee, and the practice of opposition walkouts.
The Deputy Speaker responded to various questions from the delegation regarding the activities of the Bangladesh National Parliament and expressed his commitment to further strengthening and energising parliament as an effective centre of democracy.
The delegation expressed satisfaction with the Deputy Speaker's remarks and optimism about future activities.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Mowla and other relevant officials were present.
