The news of theft at Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir's Bagerhat residence is completely baseless and misleading, the Police Headquarters has said.

Bagerhat District Police was quoted as saying that no theft actually took place there on Wednesday. When the electrical wires of the service line outside the house were torn during a storm, unknown persons took them away.

Police Headquarters said that on Tuesday, news of theft at the IGP's residence was published in various media outlets, which came to their attention. However, it was mentioned that spreading such news without verification has created confusion in the public mind.

The incident report said that when the power supply was disconnected due to a storm and rain at around 11pm on Monday, the wires of the service line adjacent to the wall were torn and fell to the ground. Later, some people took them away.

Police conducted a raid in this incident and recovered the lost wires and arrested three people involved. The arrested persons are Md. Rabiul Islam, 28, Abdur Quader, 24, and Md. Chanchal Sheikh, 38.

Police said that necessary legal action is being taken in the matter.
