Immigration checkpoints at all land ports shut for election
The government has ordered the closure of immigration checkpoints at all land ports to strengthen overall security ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.
The decision aims to prevent risky individuals from entering the country and stop those under travel restrictions from leaving during the election period.
The move is also part of broader security measures to ensure a smooth and disruption-free election, according to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Security analysts have described the decision as justified, saying open borders during elections increase the risk of criminals entering or exiting the country. Closing borders, they said, reduces such risks by up to 80 percent.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the directors general of the Immigration and Passport Department, Border Guard Bangladesh, Special Branch, and relevant ministries to take immediate action to implement the order and prevent any form of sabotage.
