Import and export through Benapole-Petrapole port have resumed after seven consecutive days of Eid holidays. Trade between India and Bangladesh began on Tuesday morning, March 24.

Benapole Port Import-Exporters' Association Vice-President Aminul Haque said that with the resumption of import-export activities, the port has once again become bustling. Businessmen, C&F agents, port and customs officials, and workers are busy unloading goods. Due to the long holidays, cargo congestion had built up on both sides of the border. With the resumption of import-export activities and goods clearance from Tuesday morning, the congestion is expected to ease gradually.

According to port sources, after activities resumed at 9:00 am on Tuesday, 58 trucks of goods were imported from India and 24 trucks were exported to India by 12:00 pm.

Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge Sakhawat Hossain said that although import-export remained suspended for seven consecutive days, passport passenger movement between the two countries continued as usual.

Benapole Port Director Shamim Hossain said instructions have been given to all concerned to ensure that businessmen can quickly clear imported goods from the port.
