Independence Day parade begins

The parade has commenced at the National Parade Square at the old airport in Tejgaon to mark the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh's emergence.

President Mohammad Sahabuddin attended the Independence and National Day parade on Thursday morning, March 26, and took the salute.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with the chiefs of the three armed services, cabinet members, senior government officials, ambassadors of various countries and domestic and foreign guests, are present at the event.

The parade is being organised at the National Parade Square under the supervision of the Armed Forces Division and the management of the 9th Infantry Division, following directives from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

After 2008, this marks the return of the formal parade display on March 26 after 18 years.

During the interim government following the fall of the Awami League government in the 2024 movement, the parade display had been suspended. However, such arrangements continued for Victory Day celebrations on December 16.

After the BNP government came to power, preparations began at the Parade Square ground from the start of Ramadan to organise this event with grandeur on Independence Day this year, with preparations finalised through a 'final rehearsal' on Tuesday.
