Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that while India has concerns about minority issues, both countries are expected to progress toward a constructive relationship on the matter.

Misri made these statements after the Bangladesh-India Secretary-level talks on Monday (December 9).

He said, "Today's meeting was productive, with several important issues discussed. India and Bangladesh will continue to collaborate on various development projects for the mutual benefit of both nations. We also touched on cultural exchanges and economic development. It is essential for both countries to maintain ongoing bilateral dialogue for the well-being of our peoples."

Indian Foreign Secretary also said, "I have come to Dhaka with an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Bangladesh's Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to attend the Global South Summit."

"India aims for a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh, focused on the well-being of the people of both nations. There is no other option but for both countries to collaborate. India is eager to work closely with the interim government on business, trade, connectivity, and development initiatives," he added.

Earlier in the morning, Misri arrived in Dhaka for a brief visit, marking the first visit by a senior Indian official to Bangladesh following the recent political changes. During his visit, Misri attended a Secretary-level meeting at the Padma guesthouse, where he was received by Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Md. Shahidul Haque. After a private discussion between the two Foreign Secretaries, the official talks commenced and lasted over three and a half hours, concluding with a lunch.

During his visit, Vikram Misri is set to meet Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Md. Touhid Hossain, before making a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Jamuna.
