India to resume tourist visas for Bangladeshis from June 28
India has announced the resumption of tourist visas for Bangladeshis. As part of an initiative to normalize bilateral relations, tourist visa operations for Bangladeshi citizens will resume from June 28.
The newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, made the announcement at a press conference organized at the Indian Visa Center in Dhaka on Thursday (June 25).
Earlier, he formally assumed his duties in Bangladesh by presenting his identity card to President Md. Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
At the press conference, Dinesh Trivedi said that the decision to resume the tourist visa operation has been taken to further strengthen communication, tourism, medical and family ties between the people of Bangladesh and India. Bangladeshi citizens will be able to apply for tourist visas again from June 28.
The announcement of the resumption of tourist visas by India is being seen as an important step in increasing people-to-people contacts between the two countries. A large number of Bangladeshis travel to India every year, especially for medical, educational, business and tourism purposes.
Detailed information about the visa application process, required documents and other formal instructions will be communicated soon by the Indian High Commission and the concerned visa centers, sources said.
According to diplomatic circles, this decision will play a helpful role in further energizing Bangladesh-India relations and will create new opportunities for increasing mutual communication between the people of the two countries.
